Leon “Joe” Chandler, M.D.

Dr.ChandlerDr. Leon “Joe” Chandler was born, bred, and educated in the mid west state of Indiana. He was raised on golf, fishing, quail hunting and dog training. His alma mater is Indiana University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree and earned a doctor’s degree in medicine. His anesthesia residency was done at Indiana University and Marion County General Hospital. He came up to Alaska via his childhood desire to fish and hunt in this great state and the United States Air Force. Although the air force brought Dr. Chandler to Alaska in 1970, it was the hunting, fishing and medical opportunities that have kept him in Anchorage, Alaska ever since. (read more - click on image)

STEVE JOHNSOn, M.D

Dr.JohnsonDr. Johnson is Board Certified in Family Practice in Canada, and in Anesthesia and Pain Management in the United States.  Dr. Johnson grew up in Montreal, Canada and went to McGill University in Montreal as an undergraduate majoring in Engineering and Pre Medicine.  McGill University was where he attended Medical School, as well. He left Montreal to do a Family Practice Residency at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and was Board Certified in Family Practice there. (read more - click on image)


SUSAN BERTRAND, M.D.

Dr.BertrandDr. Bertrand joined AA Spine & Pain Clinic in 2005. Before coming to Anchorage to join AA Spine & Pain Clinic, Dr. Bertrand served as the Medical Director for the Chronic Pain Program at Missoula Community Medical Center in Missoula Montana and Southern Hills Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in southern West Virginia.

ALFRED LONSER, M.D.
Dr.ChildDr. Alfred Lonser, M.D. has a background in Engineering. He obtained a Medical Degree from Loma Linda University in1998. He then went to the University of Virginia for a surgery residency before transitioning into Anesthesia. After successfully completing the Residency and Board requirements he and his family moved to Anchorage in 2002, where he was an anesthesiologist for Providence Hospital for 5 years. Since then Alaska has remained in his blood. He left Alaska for two years to complete a Pain Management fellowship at UCLA and then worked for one year in Nebraska before returning to Anchorage. DR. DEREK HAGEN, D.O.

Dr.McDonaldDr. Hagen is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has been practicing in Anchorage since 1997. Originally from Homer, Alaska, Dr. Hagen attended medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. He completed his internship at San Bernardino County Medical Center and his residency in Family Medicine at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. In addition to specializing in family medicine, Dr. Hagen’s practice emphasis includes sports medicine, osteopathic manipulations, and minor surgical procedures, such as no-scalpel vasectomies and mole removal. SUSAN Klimow , M.D.

Dr. KilmowDr. Klimow is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Pain Management. Other medical interests include acupuncture, electro-diagnostic testing and disability examinations.

In 1993 Dr Klimow completed a residency through UCLA at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She and her husband moved to Alaska in 1993. (read more - click on image)



Rebekah Bond
Dr. KilmowDr. Bond practiced in Texas for 21 years where she owned a clinic staffed by 6 psychologists.  She was chief consulting psychologist for Texas Back Institute’s functional rehabilitation program. She has published professional articles in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal for Spine Rehabilitation Professionals, and Behavioral Engineering.  Her primary focus is pain management---including pain-related depression and anxiety—and assessment of patients’ candidacy for surgery. Joseph Bablonka
Dr. KilmowOriginally from New England, Dr. Joseph Bablonka is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Alaska.  He holds a Masters in Psychology from the University of New Haven and engaged in Adult Education and Organizational Psychology graduate studies at Columbia University in New York.  Dr. Bablonka received his Ph.D  in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, California in 1993.

Sarah Bigelow, PA-C.

Dr. KilmowSarah Bigelow is a Certified Physician Assistant who graduated from the University of Washington, MEDEX program.  She joined A.A. Spine and Pain in 2011 after working in a family practice setting.  She is originally from Southeast Alaska until she relocated to Anchorage in 2001.  She currently serves as the Chief Delegate in the House of Delegates, AKAPA.


JANE SONNENBURG, PA-C
Dr. KilmowJane Sonnenburg is a certified Physician Assistant who obtained her degree from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Prior to her career as a Physician Assistant, she worked as an Occupational Therapist in neurosurgical settings and with traumatic hand injuries.  Ms. Sonnenburg joined AA spine Pain in 2011.
